Good tablet to use

I am an Apple guy. Have been for more than 40 years.

So, of course, we have MacBooks, iPads, iPhones, etc... However, like it has been for we Mac lovers, not everything is available for iOS devices.

I am an avid metal detectorist, and there are a few apps, like Maprika, that are only available on Android, so I picked up this tablet. Since metal detecting is an OUTDOOR hobby, the ONERugged's weather resistance and overall robustness is a big deal.

I had a little bit of learning to do, since I've never had an Android device.

This tablet comes with 128GB of internal storage, and a SIM/MicroSD card slot that will hold up to 512GB. I absolutely HATE this slot, as you have to finagle your MicroSD card into the carrier, then try to gently insert it, all the while trying not to bump the SD card out of the carrier.. VERY 2010-like.

This tablet is approximately the same size as my iPad 10th generation, but is noticeably heavier, 800g Vs 480g. Part of the extra weight is undoubtedly the integral case on the ONERugged tablet.

The color on the screen has a real funky green cast, even after using Android "color correction" feature. I don't know if this is the fault of the ONERugged tablet, or simply an Android thing.

This device comes with an elastic hand strap for the back, which I installed. It's a little tight on my adult sized hands, but should loosen up with use.

It also comes with what I believe is a stylus. I say BELIEVE because there is NO MANUAL included. None. Nada.

The thing that sets this product apart is its claim to being RUGGED. I mean, it's in the name. It claims MIL-STD-810H, which covers Shock, Vibration, Temperature and Altitude. It also has IP68 weather and water resistance, which means it is fully protected against dust and can withstand continuous immersion in water at a depth of at least 1 meter. The "6" in IP68 refers to dust protection, meaning the device is completely dust-tight. The "8" indicates protection against water, specifically continuous submersion under pressure: water resistant in fresh water to a maximum depth of 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes, and protected from dust - all without the need for extra cases or covers.

It should be noted in order to maintain this IP68, you need to have all ports covered with their integral flaps. I hope these flaps don't break off, as they are only held in place with a flimsy thread of plastic. Time will tell.

I have no way of testing these claims, short of immersing the tablet in water, dropping it from 1.22 meters height, etc., so I'll just take ONERugged's word for it.

The sound on the device claims 4 x 2W, but to be honest, it doesn't sound that great...kinda tinny. Not as good as my old iPad.

The battery gives an impressive 8 hours of run time after an overnight recharge.

The installed GPS works well, and in the end, this tablet does exactly what I need it to do: provide use of the apps I needed if for.

This replaces and old one my wif has been using.
Setup was quick and easy, so she has been on it for hours.
The old one was slow, but this one is fast.
This is such a pleasure to use we are happy with it.
